Alphonsus Capone
SHELBY OLSON
Senior Division
Al Capone is America's best known gangster and the single greatest symbol of the collapse of law and order in the United States during the1920's Prohibition Era.
Despite the efforts of federal and local law enforcement, Capone had a tight grip on Chicago. But his world started to tumble when he was convicted of tax evasion in 1931 and sent to prison. Two years later, his empire was dealt a crushing blow when Prohibition was repealed, taking away the main source of income from the Mob.
